Judge Martin Nolan said that Mr Fitzpatrick already had a negative reputation.

Last Friday, counsel for Sean Fitzpatrick argued to postpone his trial as a ‘cascade of sludge’ had been visited on his head during the trial of 3 former Anglo officials.

This morning, in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Martin Nolan said that Mr Fitzpatrick had been the subject of criticism, ridicule and odium since 2008.

He said that there would be many heroes and villains made between now and October in the fields of sport and politics.

Judge Nolan said he believed that Mr Fitzpatrick could get a fair trial, and that as a result, the trial shall go ahead on October 5th.

Mr Fitzpatrick has pleaded not guilty to 27 offences under the 1990 Companies Act.
