TLT Receivership Impact On Clare Is Downplayed

The Junior Agriculture Minister has played down the impact of the receivership a leading livestock exporter on Clare farmers.

Local representatives have expressed concern that difficulties at Mullingar-based TLT international will see cattle prices fall.

The company had exported 30,000 weanlings each year, including an estimated 2,000 from Clare.

Clare Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley has called on the government to intervene in order to minimise the impact on Ireland’s marts, but Minister of State Tom Hayes has said this isn’t possible.

He also told the Dail, and Deputy Dooley, that mart trade in Clare is holding up.
