His comments come as the head of the HSE prepares to take questions from TDs about charities breaching its pay cap.

St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin has refused to give the HSE details of private allowances for senior executives.

The HSE is carrying out an audit into top-up payments – and the Irish Times says the hospital refused on the basis that the money involved did not come from public funds.

It comes as the Public Accounts Committee prepares to name four other agencies with similar salary arrangements to that of the Central Remedial Clinic today.
