Taoiseach Reveals Talks On New Shannon Transatlantic Route

The government has been involved in talks which could open up a new transatlantic route at Shannon Airport.

Discussions have been held with officials in the U.S. state of Rhode Island, on the possibility of a direct flight between Shannon and its capital Providence.

Taosieach Enda Kenny, who visited Rhode Island last night, has said the route would strengthen ties between the two countries while it's hoped any service would facilitate both passengers and cargo.

Governor of Rhode Island Lincoln Chafee visited Ireland in May, and at that time it was reported in the US that he returned home with a letter of intent from the Shannon Airport Authority, pledging to explore possible links.
