The Taoiseach admits Ennis, Nenagh and St John’s ‘have a role to play’ in reducing overcrowding pressures on the region’s main hospital.

It follows repeated calls in this county for Ennis General Hospital’s emergency department to be reopened and the facility to be upgraded to a model 3 amenity.

The Midwest Hospitals Campaign is to hold a protest in the county town next weekend to protest increasingly high trolley numbers at University Hospital Limerick.

74 people are waiting for a bed at UHL as of this morning according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, which though a drop from last week is still more than twice any other facility nationwide.

Addressing Clare Fianna Fail TD Cathal Crowe in the Dail, Taoiseach Micheal Martin believes more bed capacity will be needed to help alleviate pressure in Dooradoyle.
