Tánaiste Defends Response To Flooding Crisis In Areas Like Clare

The Tánaiste has defended her department's response to the flooding crisis in areas like Clare saying payments have already been made to up to 300 families to cover the cost of damage.

Joan Burton was responding to claims that many families are in total disrepair as they try to deal with the aftermath of flooding.

Clare Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley beleives that many people don't have insurance and are facing a huge burden as a result of the additional cost of renting or purchasing pumps during the storms.

Asked whether her Department will cover all reasonable costs associated with the damage done to homes, Minister Burton assuranced that the cost of pumps have been supplied. 

Minister Burton also said that she has attended a number of the community welfare service clinics in rural areas a met and spoken to the community welfare officers who were on the ground during the floods right around the country.

She insists that staff and the senior staff in charge have also been around the country.
