Tánaiste Acknowledges Inadequacy Of Clare Wastewater Infrastructure

The Tánaiste has acknowledged that plans to improve waste water infrastructure in Clare must be expedited.

A report from the Environmental Protection Agency this week identified that Ballyvaughan, Kilkee, Kilrush and Liscannor were among 26 towns and villages nationwide where raw sewage was discharged last year, due to public sewers not being connected to treatment plants.

Constructed has since been completed on a €7 million waste water treatment plant in Liscannor in July of this year, while Kilrush’s plant is due to be completed by the end of this year.

Uisce Éireann has also pledged to conclude works on plants in Ballyvaughan and Kilkee by the end of 2025.

 

Responding to a parliamentary question in the Dáil from Scariff Independent TD Micheal McNamara, Tánaiste Micheál Martin conceded that works are not being carried out fast enough.
