There’s been a slight drop in the number of households on Clare’s social housing list.
It follows Clare County Council signing a contract for 61 new turnkey units last month.
Clare County Council’s Monthly Management Report for this month details the needs of 2,847 households awaiting accommodation from the local authority.
That’s a fall of 23 compared to May’s levels, showing while there is progress, it’s barely scratching the surface of demand in the county.
Over three quarters of households on the list are looking for 2 bed accommodation, with a further 17 percent applying for a three bed property.
More than 2 in 5 households on the list have their first preference location as Ennis, with Shannon, Clarecastle and the combined region of Feakle/Scariff/Whitegate the next most popular areas.
More people on the list are between the ages of 38 and 47 than any other age group, though 260 households waiting are people aged over 65.
Clare County Council says its housing delivery continues ‘at pace’, with 65 units in Tulla and Ashline in Ennis allocated via the choice based letting system in the past month.
The local authority has 2,711 tenancies in stock across the county, with nearly 1,300 further households claiming the Housing Assistance Payment.
