Significant Clare Representation On Mid West Health Planning Board

There’s significant Clare representation on the board which will oversee the development of a new hospital in the Midwest along with service enhancements in Clare and Tipperary.

The Health Minister has confirmed the appointment of retired business leader Sean O’Driscoll to the Mid West Health Planning Board which will also count three people with strong Clare connections among its membership.

Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill has established the board to provide strategic direction and oversight on the development of a Mid West Service and Infrastructure Plan.

The board will begin its work in September and finalise the delivery of the plan, which the minister is describing as a “credible roadmap for safe, accessible and sustainable healthcare” in the region, within nine months.

After this, it’s understood the HSE will develop and deliver on an implementation plan to advance the work of the board.

The board will be headed up by Sean O’Driscoll who’s best known as the former CEO and chairperson of the Glen Dimplex Group.

Ennis consultant cardiologist Dr Terry Hennessy will serve as Regional Clinical Lead for Strategy and Development, while Lissycasey native Alma Kelly is the Construction, Engineering and Renewables Specialist.

Lahinch-based health campaigner John Wall meanwhile has been brought on board as Patient and Service User Council Representative.
