Shannon Staff Set For Industrial Action Ballot

Workers at Shannon, Cork and Dublin Airports are set to take a ballot on industrial action in a bid to protect their pensions.

Unions representing over 4,500 staff at the state airports have accused Aer Lingus and the Dublin Airport Authoritiy of failing to address a 700 million euro shortfall in ther pension scheme, and after unions rejected a plan put forward to deal with the defecit.

Voting will begin on Friday, and workers have been told any action could include strikes.

An Aer Lingus spokesperson has been reported as saying that the former flag carrier is committed to finding a solution.
