It’s claimed the community of Shannon is up in arms following a consistent spate of criminality in local housing estates.
It follows a large volume of reports of break-ins and car thefts in Cúl Na Gréine and surrounding areas.
Car thefts and attempted break-ins have been a consistent thorn in the side of Shannon residents in recent years and the latest spate of criminality has now put the wheels in motion for a local community alert group.
At roughly 3.45am on Monday, Saoirse Sparkes discovered through her doorbell camera that thieves had entered her vehicle, but fortunately for her, there was nothing to take at the time.
She says the culprits quickly moved on to a neighbours car and it’s understood this group have been suspected on involvement in multiple incidents throughout the county.
Saoirse says it was a seriously distressing incident.
Several incidents have been reported in Shannon, including in the Cúl Na Gréine Housing Estate, which the town’s Sinn Féin local area representative has branded as completely unacceptable.
Shane Doody says it’s vital all incidents are reported to Gardaí to ensure Shannon’s allocated the resources it needs to tackle organised crime.
