Shannon Again Mooted As Home For Potential Cargo Hub

Shannon Airport has been identified as the best site in Ireland for the development of a hub for international freight traffic.

Kieran O’Callaghan, chief executive of freight forwarding company Cargo Logistics, has told the Oireachtas Transport Committee that such an airfreight model would offer faster access to mainland Europe.

Shannon has been flagged as the home of a potential hub for freight cargo for a number of years, with little movement, and Mr. O’Callaghan warned the committee that such a development would cost over €20m a year.

However, he says that Shannon Airport would be its ideal home.
