Shannon has been dealt a double blow this afternoon as the government shelves plans to roll out the remainder of the decentralisation programme.
Under the plan hundreds of jobs would have relocated to Clare with the transfer of Enterprise Ireland and the Headquarters of the Irish Aviation Authority to the county.

Both organisations currently have offices in the Shannon and Newmarket on Fergus areas but under decentralisation all opperations would have moved here.
The government’s also planning to reduce the number of public sector staff by a further 23-thousand-500 and a major review of various other state bodies is underway too.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny says there’s no choice.
