Shannon Councillor Brands Health Minister’s Commitment To Addressing Dental Scheme Issues ‘Lip Service’

A Shannon Councillor is accusing the Health Minister of merely paying ‘lip service’ in his commitment to addressing issues with the dental scheme for medical card patients.

New figures from the HSE show that the number of medical card holders receiving treatment in Clare under the Dental Treatment Services Scheme (DTSS) has more than halved since 2019, while 5 local dentists have pulled out of the scheme in the first half of this year alone.

In December, correspondence on behalf of Minister Stephen Donnelly to Clare County Council confirmed that officials in the Department and from the HSE were engaging with the Irish Dental Association on the matter.
