Three of Clare’s Five Local Electoral areas have shown an improvement in their 14-day incidence rate of COVID-19.

While the Kilrush area saw no change over the past seven days, and Shannon’s rate of the virus grew slightly, most areas saw a significant drop.

The 14-day incidence rate in Ennis fell by almost half from 297.6 to 165 per 100,000 population, while Killaloe and Ennistymon saw their rates drop to 109.4 and 109.7 respectively.

It means that now only the Ennis and Shannon electoral areas have a higher incidence rate than the national average, which now sits at 151.5, Shannon’s grew to 164.5.

Still the average rate of the virus in Clare remains well below the national average at 109.4 per 100,000 population.

The Chief Medical Officer remains optimistic we can continue to lower the rate of the virus here and elsewhere.
