Shannon Airport Allocated €7 Million In Operational Funding

Shannon Airport has been allocated over €7 million in operational funding for the coming year.

Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Jack Chambers has announced the provision of over €11 million in direct Exchequer supports for regional airports across the country.

This operational funding is administered under the Regional Airports Programme 2021-2025 and will support vital safety and security operations, such as air traffic control, fire services and security at each airport.

Shannon airport has been allocated €7,171,721 which is an almost 5% increase on the operational allocational it received in 2022.

Kerry (€1.423m), Knock (€1.869m) and Donegal (€0.721m) have also been granted operational funding, bringing the entire funding pool to €11,185,000.

Along with the over €4,600,000 received in capital funding, this brings the Midwest base’s total funding allocation for 2023 to over €11,795,000.

This comes in a year where Shannon Airport passenger traffic looks set to overtake pre-pandemic figures.
