The 34th annual conference of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors gets underway in Co Wexford later today.

It comes after the Government announced a number of station closures in December’s budget – and since the departure of hundreds of officers in February, under the public sector retirement scheme.
Up to 30 motions will be debated during the three day event, including calls for an increase in the number of armed gardaí .
