A Scariff native and former Ennis Priest says he’s immensely honoured to be chosen as the Pope’s Representative in the Czech Republic.
Archbishop Eugene Nugent is currently serving as a Papal Nuncio in the Gulf serving Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar, while also holding the position in Iran, Turkey, Israel, Hong Kong, Madagascar, Mauritius and the Seychelles.

Archbishop Nugent also gained prominence in 2015 for his extensive efforts to rebuild churches and communities in Haiti following the devastating earthquake of 2010.
He’s told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that he’s eager to get going on his new role.
