Staff at one of the MidWest’s largest employers have been given an early Christmas present with news that a threat to its future is to be lifted.
Doubt was cast in recent months over the future of Limerick’s Aughinish Alumina plant, which employs 680 people directly and supports a further 1,000 workers, after sanctions were imposed on its Russian owners by the US.

The news has been welcomed by the Irish government.
