Ryanair rejects new multi million euro deal to boost Shannon flights

The Dublin Airport Authority has revealed that a multimillion euro deal aimed at increasing traffic through Shannon and other airports has been rejected by Ryanair.

Under the deal, the DAA offered Ryanair more than 60 million euro worth of discounts on airport charges for new flights at Shannon, Cork and Dublin but talks have now broken down, after Ryanair demanded higher subsidies of 100 million euro.

Negotiations between the DAA and Ryanair ended last evening after Ryanair’s insistence that it be paid more than 100 million euro in discounts, with no guarantee of any additional traffic.

Ryanair also wanted 10 million in discounts for existing passengers in Dublin, which, according to the Airport Authority, would have seen Ryanair being financially rewarded for reducing traffic in Shannon and Cork airports and transferring it to Dublin.

In a statement to Clare FM the DAA said regrettably, Ryanair refused its offer of 60 million euro in discounts and continues to demand 100 million euro in subsidies with no guarantee of any extra traffic

DAA Chief Executive Declan Collier says they’re keen to stimulate sustainable growth at Dublin, Cork and Shannon but described Ryanair’s proposals as unrealistic and unsustainable.
