The Road Safety Authority says the waiting time to access a driving test in Shannon needs to be addressed ‘straight away’.

Currently, there’s an average wait time of 15 weeks to take a test in Kilrush, 20 weeks in Ennis and 35 weeks in Shannon – far above the service agreement of 10 weeks.

Addressing the Oireachtas Transport Commitee, the RSA confirmed that 40 temporary testers will be hired and deployed to areas with the longest wait times.

Chief Operating Officer with the RSA, Brendan Walsh, is warning that it will be 2024 before the service in Clare returns to normal levels.
