The identification of a “grave and immediate danger to food safety” has prompted a closure order being served to a North Clare business.
Authorised by the HSE, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland has ordered Doolin Ice Cream to close its food store following the discovery of a “significant number of rodent droppings”.
The FSAI has instructed the business located on Fisher Street in Doolin to close its food store due to concerns around prevention of contamination, pest control procedures, cleaning and sanitation.
Outlining its findings, the body says a “significant number” of rodent droppings were observed in the food store.
These were seen in a box containing lids for smoothie cups, within the plastic wrapping of the lids, on a shelf behind bottles, beside boxes of cone wafers and beside an ice cream freezer.
Gnawing by rodents was also observed on packaging.
The FSAI says it’s observed an “absence of rodent proofing” and that there was no pest control plan in place at the time of inspection.
In conclusion, the body says there’s a “grave and immediate danger” to food safety in the food premises due to rodent activity and a lack of cleaning.
