The Minister with responsibility for Road Safety has described as “alarming” the number of road crashes on the national primary route between Clare and Limerick in recent months.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland has recorded 41 collisions on the M18 and N18 over the three month period from September, with 32 of those on the Clare stretch of the route alone.
Two major pieces of road safety legislation aimed at strengthening enforcement, improving access to collision data and changing dangerous driving behaviour in order to reduce road fatalities and serious injuries are progressing this spring.
Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Seán Canney is reassuring that necessary enhancements to the motorway in Clare will be examined, but he says driver behaviour must play a part in ensuring the safety of all road users.
