Repair works to be carried out on Ballybeg Woods

Clare County Council is to carry out works to remove or repair over 500 damaged trees at Ballybeg Woodland in Ennis.

The 25-hectare woodland, which is popular amongst locals and the wider community, was planted in the late 1950s and is adjacent to a Special Area of Conservation which is seen as key for the Lesser Horseshow Bat.

However, hundreds of trees there were damaged during last year's storms and following a survey, enhancement and safety works are to be carried out.

As a result, the woodland will be closed to the public from August 31st to September 11th.
