Record Number Of Top Building Energy Ratings Awarded In Clare Last Year

A record number of A1 Building Energy Rating certificates were awarded to homes in Clare last year.

New figures published by the Central Statistics Office show more than 100 dwellings received the top grade in 2025.

A Building Energy Rating audit assesses the energy efficiency of a property on a scale from A to G.

A total of 3,566 audits of homes in Clare took place last year, indicating a rise of 21% on 2024.

Almost one quarter of these, or 24%, received a C grade, with A2 and B3 being the next most common ratings.

The figures show that 126 homes in Clare were rated A1 which is up 58% on last year and the highest figure for the county since records began.

It’s also revealed that 42% of dwellings auditted in Clare received a BER of B2 or higher which is deemed by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland to be the minimum recommended rating.

Of the homes which received ratings, heating oil was the most common main space heating fuel type while the majority of units were built between 1978 and 1999.
