The number of new homes built in Clare increased by almost half last year.

Figures from the Construction Industry Federation show 310 new homes were built in Clare, a 44% increase on the previous year.
Growth was strongest in Dublin, where demand saw the number of new homes increase by 140%, but outside of the capital the rate of increase in Clare was beaten by only Wexford and Cavan.
However, the Federation warns that the number of new homes built last year was less than half of the figure that the government believes is required each year.
