The President of the Clare branch of SVP wants voluntary contributions in schools scrapped as well as free books for all pupils.
It comes after a new report has revealed the average cost of sending a child to primary school is now apporaching €1,200, and is nearer €1,500 at second level.
The Irish League of Credit Unions, who compiled the survey, say more than two third of parents in Munster are finding back to school costs a financial burden.
