Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD is calling on the government to take oversight into the seizure of a toddler from a Cratloe mother by armed forces.
On May 17th, two-year-old Leonard O’Brien was taken from his mother Sarah Jane in Antibes by the French military and taken to Malta, after legal procedures were taken by the child’s father.
Leonard’s father filed for a return order under the Hague Abduction Convention, a treaty that deals with cases when a parent takes a child to another jurisdiction or retains a child in another jurisdiction without the consent of the other parent.
Meelick Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe wants the government to take the same diplomatic action it did in the Ibrahim Halawa case in helping Sarah Jane.
