Unemployment Benefit Claims In Clare Reaches Lowest Point This Year

The number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Clare has reached its lowest point this year so far.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show there was over 200 fewer people on the live register in this county last month.

A total of 4,377 were claiming social welfare supports in Clare at the end of April, which is a drop of more than 5% from the almost 4,600 people recorded in March.

Nearly half of those presenting at Dole queues in April did so Ennis, with 2,157 people on the live register there.

In Ennistymon there was also a notable reduction in those claiming unemployment benefit, falling from 1,096 to 1,004.

Elsewhere , 512 people signed on at the social welfare office in Tulla, will 704 availed of supports in Kilrush.

Countywide, there was an even split between males and females on the live register.

While in terms of age, just 10% of people claiming unemployment benefit here were under twenty-five years of age in April.
