Planning permission applications down by 20%

The number of planning permissions granted for new homes in Clare was down by over 20 per cent in the first quarter of the year.

Local authorities here granted permission for 41 new homes in the first three months of this year, compared to 52 in the first quarter of 2011.

Drops were also recorded in permissions granted for other types of building, for extensions and for alterations or conservations when compared to the same timeframe last year.

While the figures for Clare do show falls, they are not as severe as has been recorded in other parts of Ireland where a 63% decrease was recorded in the number of successful applications for new dwellings.
