Plane Diverted to Shannon Airport

A transatlantic British Airways flight was forced to divert to Shannon Airport last night after a smell of smoke was detected on board.

The British Airways flight 297 from London to Chicago was about an hour into its Atlantic crossing when it was forced to turn back after the pilot reported a smell of smoke in the passenger cabin.

It landed at Shannon at around 8.15 last night.
