Parts Of Clare Affected By Localised Flooding As Weather Warning Remains In Place

Met Eireann is warning of the potential for further localised flooding in Clare, as bad weather continues to batter the county.

There are reports of deep surface water on roads across the county, with Gardaí warning the main Kilrush to Ennis road is particularly bad, as well routes in and around Ennis town, Klinamona and West Clare.

A car has been towed, meanwhile, after getting caught in flooding on the Cree to Kilmihil road in the Leitrim West townland.

A yellow wind and rain alert remains in place for the entire country until 9 o’clock tonight, with coastal areas bearing the brunt of the conditions.

Met Éireann forecaster Emer Flood has been speaking with Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill on the Main Lunchtime News programme, when she outlined what’s in store for Clare over the coming days.

Clare County Council crews are out and about removing fallen debris that it says is typical of this time of the year.

Senior Engineer Cyril Feeney says so far there are no major flooding incidents, but he’s warning people to take extra care.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 households in South East Clare are without power this afternoon.

The ESB says 1,064 areas in the townland of Gillogue, near Clonlara and Parteen, have been without service since 12.30.

Power is expected to be restored by 1.45.
