Overflow Ward Opened At Ennis General Hospital To Help Curb Overcrowding At UHL

An overflow ward has been opened at Ennis General Hospital in a bid to curb overcrowding in the region's main hospital.

Over the past two days, a combined total of over forty patients have been waiting on trolleys in the Emergency Department at University Hospital Limerick, while over thirty more have been in overflow areas of wards awaiting admission.

At one point on Monday, patients were being told that they faced a 15 hour wait to see a doctor but a hospital spokesperson says this has since reduced.

Their statement also says that in the 24 hours to yesterday morning, there were around 60 more hospital attendances than would usually be expected at Dooradoyle.
