Over €150,000 has been raised for a Clare child who’s in need of lifesaving treatment.
12-Year-Old Layla Kelly from Kilfenora has been courageously battling an extremely rare form of cancer and is now at a critical stage of her journey, which requires a highly complex operation that can only be performed in the Netherlands.
In April 2023, young Layla Kelly began to experience extensive aches and pains and within a few short weeks had to put a stop to her beloved activities of football, dancing and swimming.
She was subsequently diagnosed with Adrenocortical Carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer and despite two major surgeries and months of intense chemotherapy, the illness re-emerged and in a more aggressive form again.
Even after spending seven months in hospital and facing setback after setback, including a failed immunotherapy attempt, Layla remains in high spirits.
She now requires a highly complex and life saving surgery that can only be performed by a specialist team in the Netherlands.
Layla’s Auntie Sarah Kelly says they learned of the opportunity following extensive research from Layla’s consultant.
A GoFundMe campaign launched to raise funds for Layla’s operation has so far accumulated over €150,000, with the family hopeful the procedure can take place within the next month.
Her Aunt Sheila Keane says Layla is already focusing on how she can help others by spreading awareness of her condition.
