Over 300 Patients Waiting More Than 18 Months For Cardiology At Ennis Hospital

More than 300 people are now waiting over a year and a half for medical appointments at Ennis Hospital.

The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund that almost 25,000 patients in the MidWest were on waiting lists at the end of last month.

There were approximately 23,530 patients on a waiting list for procedures at University Hospital Limerick at the end of January.

The vast majority of these were on the outpatient list, where Dermatology, Cardiology and Gynaecology were the services most in demand.

On the inpatient list, 2,750 service users were waiting for appointments, with 36% on a list for Ophthalmology, the treatment of eye disorders.

In Ennis, 586 were on the inpatient list, with more than two-thirds waiting for Urology appointments.

While there were 955 on the Outpatients side and here 88% were waiting for a cardiology procedure.

Of those waiting to see a heart specialist in Ennis, 316 have been on the waiting list for longer than 18 months.
