Over 1,000 road traffic collisions took place in Clare between 2016 and 2024.
New data published by the Road Safety Authority has revealed that 40 fatal crashes occurred in this county during the nine-year stretch.
The RSA’s figures show that 1,027 road traffic collisions were recorded in Clare County Council’s jurisdiction in the period between 2016 and 2024.
Of these, 752 were non-serious injury collisions while 235 were serious-injury incidents and 40 were fatal.
South-east Clare accounted for 13 fatal collisions, with 11 taking place in west Clare, seven in the Ennis area, five in north Clare and four in east Clare.
2017 and 2019 saw the most collisions, with 129 observed each year, followed by 2024 with 122 incidents.
When it came to fatal road traffic collisions, 2022 was the most lethal year during this period, with seven crashes resulting in a death.
