Outpatient Waiting List At UHL and Ennis Hospital See Slight Reduction

Outpatient waiting lists have seen a slight reduction in the Midwest in the last month.

Figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund show the number of adults waiting for a first appointment at University Hospital has fallen while the waiting list at Ennis Hospital has seen a marginal increase.

There were 21,850 adults waiting for a first appointment at the outpatient departments of UHL and Ennis Hospital in March.

The region’s main hospital saw a fall of 73 in its numbers while the number of adults on the outpatient waiting list in Ennis jumped by 16.

Across both facilities’ outpatient departments, the number of adults waiting over 18 months for an appointment has seen a 9% increase from 850 to 930, with UHL accounting for 891 of these.

The vast majority of appointments people are waiting for at UHL relate to dermatology with these making up 4,129 of the total number.

In Ennis meanwhile, adults awaiting cardiology appointments account for 999 of the 1,102 people on the facility’s waiting list.

Looking at the national picture, the adult outpatient waiting list at the Dooradoyle Facility is the tenth longest in the country while Ennis’s is the third shortest.
