The Ennis connection of one of the most celebrated Irish historical figures will be acknowledged through a series of events in the coming weeks.
To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Daniel O’Connell, who was first elected in Ennis in 1828, Clare County Council has organised a Daniel O’Connell Commemorative Programme.
In addition to a number of lectures, talks and displays, a musical event centring on O’Connell’s life will take place in glór on Saturday August 9th, while a time capsule will be buried by Ennis schoolchildren in O’Connell Square on Sunday August 10th.
Clare County Council Senior Executive Librarian Dolores Meaney believes it’s a fitting tribute.
