Nurses urge Health Minister to reopen closed hospital beds in MidWest

Nursing Staff in the Mid West are appealing to the Health Minister to reopen closed beds in the region in order to alleviate what they say is serious overcrowding in A&E’s

INMO figures today show there are currently 20 patients stuck on trolleys and chairs in the emergency department at Limerick Regional Hospital awaiting admission – with a further 15 extra people on wards.

Nursing staff at Ennis General are also under increased pressure as bed capacity at Clare’s County Hospital is stretched with 5 patients waiting for a bed on a ward.

The Irish Nurses and Mid Wives Organisation say despite promises from Minister Health Reilly there has been no improvement and they are demanding that 20 beds at Saint John’s Hospital in Limerick be reopened to help ease the situation.
