Number Of Home Tuition Grant Recipients In Clare Halves In Two Years

The number of people in receipt of the Home Tuition Grant in Clare has halved in two years.

Just 46 individuals in this county claimed the Government support in 2020.

The grant is provided by the Department of Education for children who are unable to attend school for a number of specific reasons, including medical grounds.

Under the scheme, home tutors are engaged by the parents or guardian of the child who is to receive tuition, and the Department of Education says it’s intended to be a short term measure.

90 individuals received income under the initiative in Clare in 2018 – this reduced slightly to 81 in 2019.

However, 2020 saw a fall of tutors receiving government support in this county to 46 – possibly on account of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fall is broadly in line with a national trend, with neighbouring counties of Limerick and Galway also seeing similar falls in numbers last year.

Just seven counties had more people in receipt of the Home Tuition Grant than Clare in 2020.
