Number Of Clare People On Unemployment Benefit Down 6% In A Year

The number of Clare people claiming some form of unemployment benefit is down 6% on last year.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show 4,500 people were on the live register in October which is down over 300 on the same month in 2022.

Exactly 4,500 people were recorded as claiming some form of unemployment benefit last month which is 321 less than the figure for October of 2022 when 4,821 were in receipt of payments.

However, it reveals there’s been a marginal increase of 42 since September when just 4,458 people were on the live register in this county.

The majority of those claiming unemployment benefit in Clare are women, with 2,258 females receiving some form of payment in October compared to 2,242 men.

This is in stark contrast to the national picture, where 54% of those on the live register are male.

Of those seeking unemployment benefit in Clare, 4,047 are 25 or over which is up 39 on September, while the number under 25 has risen by three to 453.

1,161 queued for dole payments in Ennis which was up 18 on the previous month, while North Clare saw an increase of 12 to 467.

East and West Clare meanwhile both saw drops of 18 and eight, respectively.

The total number of people nationwide on the live register fell by 3,300 or just under 2% from September to 175,500.
