Northern Irish Security organisations played key role in Finucane Death

The British Prime Minister has said Northern Irish security organisations played a key role in Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane’s murder in 1989.

David Cameron’s described Desmond de Silva’s report into his death, which is being published today, as truly shocking.

It’s found that employees of the state and state agents played a key role in his murder.

David Cameron says the report shows there was not an over-arching State collusion, but the murder could likely have been avoided if the RUC had acted on threat intelligence there were in possession of.

The Prime Minister says the family has suffered appallingly, and it’s possible Pat Finucane wouldn’t have died, if not for the State.
