Clare Open 2024 All Ireland Camogie Championship With Victory Over Down

Glen Dimplex All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship: Clare 1-14 Down 1-5

It may not have been the most classic of games, but for Clare, the target of opening the year with points on the board was achieved in comfortable enough fashion.

A dominant second half display from Clare saw them run out nine point winners, having trailed by four after 22 minutes.

That was as a result of a fortunate goal for Down which left them 1-3 to 0-2 ahead, but Aine O’Loughlin responded with a green flag to help the Banner lead by 1-6 to 1-4 at the break.

The second half was owned by Clare, with Roisin Begley notching a trio of points along with good scores for Laura Foley, Zi Yan Spillane and Caoimhe Carmody to help Clare get off the mark.

Up next is a trip to Dublin on Saturday next, where a second win on the bounce would leave Clare within touching distance of sealing a quarter-final place in the All Ireland series.
