Clare County Council won’t begin construction on any social housing units this year.
The government recently furnished a list showing 119 social housing units are on track here, and planning is in place for builds in Feakle, Clonlara and Quilty.
However, the Council’s Director of Services for Housing has confirmed that building work won’t get underway at any of those sites until 2018.
The wait comes at a time when around 2,500 people are on the county’s housing waiting list, but Council Director of Services Liam Conneely insists there is no inordinate delay.
