A Clare County Council committee meeting has heard calls for a housing crisis to be declared in Clare
However, while some of those sitting on the Social Development Committee agreed there are serious issues here, they didn’t back the call.
Committee member Dermot Hayes wants the Council to declare a housing crisis here.
He’s pointed to the latest figures, which show 2,500 people on the housing waiting list, over 40 homeless children and adults and a lack of sanitation for some traveller families here:
In response, Clare County Council has insisted they are addressing the housing issue here.
Director of Services for Housing for the Local Authority, Liam Conneely doesn’t believe there is an outright housing crisis:
