INMO Calls On HSE For Immediate Action To Address Hospital Overcrowding

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is calling on the HSE to take immediate action to address hospital overcrowding.

The union says 824 admitted patients were on trolleys nationwide this morning, with University Hospital Limerick once again the busiest in the country, reporting 97 patients waiting for beds.

The INMO has described the situation as dangerous, noting that 495 patients on trolleys was declared a national emergency by former Health Minister Mary Harney in 2006.

It is calling for elective activity in acute hospitals to be halted, with private hospital capacity purchased to accommodate the work, and says hospital activity must be aligned with available staffing.
