74 people have now died in this county as a result of the disease – at least 28 of those, more than a third, since the beginning of 2021.

The week between January 22nd and 29th saw the second highest death toll here since in a single seven day period the pandemic began – only behind the week before, when a further eleven people died due to COVID-19, or after they were diagnosed with the virus.

The median age of those who died in Clare is 83 years old.

These CSO figures record cases and deaths due to COVID-19 on the actual day they occurred.

They show 4,207 COVID cases have been confirmed in Clare since the pandemic began up to last Friday, although the total case numbers last week was the lowest recorded in over a month.

There are suggestions that warnings from public health officials locally are continuing to be effective – the number of cases linked to outbreaks is now at its lowest – down to ten – since Christmas week.
