MidWest Sees Biggest Drop in Unemployed

There has been a near ten per cent drop in the number of people on the live register in the MidWest over the past year, the largest drop of any region in Ireland.

New CSO figures show 32,100 people were signing on in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary at the end of last month, an annual decrease of 3,400.

Full figures for Clare will be released tomorrow, while latest figures from the C-S-O show a fall of 1,600 people in the numbers signing on in May.

The unemployment rate remains unchanged at 11.8 per cent.
