A Clare Independent TD believes feels a lack of communication from the Department of Heritage is to blame for two Clare sites not making the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tentative List.
In response to a question from Scariff-based TD Michael McNamara, Minister Darragh O’Brien states that the Burren failed to be included as a ‘revised application needs to be drafted to incorparate aspects of the Galway Burren’.
In relation to Holy Island, the Housing Minister stated that ‘a robust narrative for oustanding universal value was not sufficiently demonstrated’.
Deputy McNamara says the disconnect between the Department and Clare County Council during the application process appears to be the reason for the sites being excluded from the list.
