The Mayor of Ennis has defended Clare County Council’s decision not to nominate any candidates for the Presidential Election.
Although, 26 Áras An Uachtaráin hopefuls sent an expression of interest to the local authority, only five attended yesterday’s special meeting.

Filmmaker Searlait Ni Chíanáin, Gaeilgeoir Diarmaid Mulcahy, Anti-Migrant Activist Sarah-Louise Mulligan, Academic Dr Cora Stack and Animal Welfare Party Leader Gerben Uunk all staked their claims.
Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard says despite the party whip, she believes none of the candidates were Presidential material.
